The Seven Chairs
By: Angela Li
"There are seven. Seven chairs. Seven demon chairs," growled Vladimir, "These demons are everywhere, scattered all over the globe. Harris, Burdick, you are assigned to this case. Only my best secret agents can capture and destroy these chairs."
"Okay, Burdick. I think we should begin this case ASAP. Look, Sir Vladimir gave us a map. Each red spot is the location of one demon chair," Harris said, after they had left Vladimir's office.
"Yes, I agree, Harris. Have you noticed this though? There is one red spot on every continent. The first one is in North America, in Canada, and second is in South America, in Peru, and so on!" Burdick exclaimed.
"Well, if the first one is in Canada, let's go!" Harris replied.
When they arrived in Canada, Harris and Burdick received a call from their boss, Sir Vladimir.
"This just in. The first 'demon chair is located in the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa," he informed them. Harris and Burdick gave each other a look, and nodded.
They travelled by limo and wore fancy black suits to the Parliament Buildings. When they arrived, Harris knocked on the first door he saw. Strangely, it opened by itself without anybody really touching it.
"Come in," an echoing voice howled from deep inside the building. Cautiously, Burdick went in, followed by a frightened Harris. They walked for a bit, until they were stopped.
"Stop!" the voice yelled. Burdick stopped in his tracks, and Harris crashed into him. Both men looked up, only to see a chair up in the air, just hovering there. Suddenly it attacked. Harris, who proudly owned a black belt in karate, deflected the chair as it flied at him. Stunned, the chair hobbled to Burdick, and tried to deliver a blow to his head, but Harris grabbed one of its four legs and flung it on the marble floor without letting go. Then he flung it on the other side. The second hit caused the chair great damage. The back splintered off, and the two front legs were broken in half. You could hear the chair's voice slowly fading away as it shouted in pain.
The same thing happened at the next three places: Peru, South America, Canberra, Australia, and Antarctica. But the fifth demon chair was different. The fifth one ended up in France.
When Harris and Burdick arrived in Paris, France, they were told by Sir Vladimir that the fifth demon chair was in Notre Dame. There were many windows, and all the lights were on, unlike the past four buildings they had visited. Also, this time, the Voice didn't greet Harris and Burdick. Instead, it was heard tormenting an innocent nun.
"Sit, you foolish nun! Sit, or else!" the demon chair demanded, in a frighteningly hollow voice. Burdick peeked around the corner to see a chair with a scared nun sitting atop it. Her eyes were rolling around in their sockets and she was pulling her hair out - literally. Harris and Burdick weren't scared; they had seen many people go insane in their lifetime of secret agent work. Burdick ran out and was about to grab and destroy the demon chair when it flew up right out of his grasp.
"Can't reach me now, can you, fool?" the demon chair snarled, with a thick French accent. Harris ran out to join Burdick. He jumped and jumped, but the chair kept flying up. The nun had gone limp and she had no soul, no life inside her. Harris and Burdick finally stopped jumping and stood side by side, watching the demon chair hover above them. All of a sudden, the demon chair attacked, dropping the nun. Burdick was tempted to retrieve and revive her, but his natural instinct told him to run. So, along with Harris, he ran. The two ran outside and hopped into the helicopter that had brought them there. Harris started it up and it lifted off. He flew as fast as the helicopter could go. He flew right across Europe and into Asia, which they also flew right across. The demon chair was hot on their heels. The problem was that as Harris and Burdick passed Mongolia, another demon chair joined the wild goose chase. Harris kept speeding across the sky, right into Africa. As they bolted past Tanzania, another demon chair joined in.
"FASTER!" Burdick screamed, as he looked back and saw three demon chairs flying after them rather than just the one they started out with. So Harris slammed his foot down on the gas. At that moment, they were on top of the Indian Ocean. However, his amount of strength put into speeding up the helicopter broke the gas pedal and cut off the gas. The helicopter plunged down into the ocean with Harris and Burdick trapped inside.
Epilogue
To this day, there are still three remaining demon chairs scattered around the globe. They are still hunting down innocent people, like the nun mentioned in the story, and killing them by sucking out their souls and leaving them lifeless. One is in France, another is in Siberia, and the last one is located in Ivory Coast. Beware.
