Department of Sociology

University of Toronto

I am Distinguished Professor of Social Science and Chair of the Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto. Before moving to the University of Toronto in 2007, I previously held academic appointments at Brock University, the University of Oxford, Western University and McMaster University.

My general teaching and research interests are in political sociology, social stratification, and applied statistics. My current research explores the consequences of income inequality for a wide array of attitudes and behaviours considered important to the health of liberal democracy. I am also a social statistician with expertise in survey research methods. Some of my recent research has appeared in the American Sociological Review, American Journal of Political Science, British Journal of Sociology and the Annual Review of Sociology. I am also the author of Modern Methods for Robust Regression (Sage, 2008).
