Warcraft 3 review:

1. Creep - A true RTS does not
require luck factors War3 - great, all we need is a luck factor to make the slow players have a better chance of winning! If you're unfortunate and happen get some bad items when creeping.. then I suppose... "There’s the stupid luck factor. Which is always so important. In a War3 competition nobody in the top20 is really much better than others. Like if you put YellOw and BoxeR with 18 other players, there are high chances of them both being top3. There isn't such a thing in Warcraft 3, which kinda explains the bad results of Koreans in international tournaments. That, and the luck." - ElkY

2. AUTOCAST - is this a movie? It sure is entertaining to watch your army do everything by itself! But is this Real Time Strategy or a movie? Wow, sorceresses are casting the initiate spell "slow" on all the grunts YAY!! Oh and there's smart casting, select 12 spell casters and cast something. They don't all cast the spell right away (as they should since they're all selected), they cast it one by one. I guess selecting individual casters is too difficult for the average user, and there we have autocast. I suggest that in future gam3s, a new feature should also be added - "autoplay". Wouldn't it be great? Not only you don't need them to help cast spells you don't even even need to move your units anymore! Press ctrl+shift+p for the AI to do all the building, microing, macroing for you! Great huh? |
3. Multitask made redundant Does it even exist? If it is actually known, is it actually necessary? "err.. multitasking? why do that? just queue it all, up the buildings on one worker! Bind all buildings to one hotkey, tab through them, press a hotkey, AND not only can you queue units, but also upgrades! so even those who are not blessed with a brain *might* not forget to." Do some of you even remember how whisps used to work when the gam3 first came out? 2 months before TFT's release: "some 12 year old WAR3 players came and whined to blizzard about whisps that are rallied on an uncompleted goldmine, did not enter when done... The little kids kept whining" In the end, Blizzard granted their wish. Whisps now enter unentangled goldmines after they have been entangled! It's very nice of Blizzard to do so. First we don't really need to build workers.. 5 for gold (perhaps 5 for expansion) and just 10 for wood - that's it. Now we don't even need to bother to tell the whisps to enter when the entanglement is completed! Perfect! "SO MUCH MULTITASKING IM GONNA EXPLODE!"

4. Lack of unit control - lack of micro yep.. another great feature? 100 unit control cap, and 15 for your heroes! So take a stab in how units you get... probably less than 30. Blizzard does this just to make sure that everyone could manage! OMG WARCRAFT 3 has such INCREDIBLE micro!! how difficult is it gonna get if your units have an average of 500 life and deals 30 damage. It'd probably die after 17 hits. Mind ya, on average your unit attacks once every 1.33+ seconds so a battle between 2 units would take over 30 seconds! Yes, it does leave a great margin for errors - it's really impossible to muck up. On the other hand, some people believe that it's not possible to micro in faster paced gam3s, and believe that war3 is just right... "There is practically no micro on StarCraft cause the units die so fast... unlike WarCraft, you can micro very much." - NavyStorm

5. Slow motion As mentioned in the lack of unit control section, the units attack WAY too slow. In fact they move extremely slow as well. Good. They walk slow, they attack slow and they die slow. THAT's your Warcraft 3 - in SLOW motion! So why did Blizzard decide to leave such a margin for mistakes? Ask yourself why. Perhaps Slow motion sums up the why multitasking isn't necessary. "That's where your Blizzard's newbie-friendliness has gotten you. Open your eyes" |
6.
Pathetic AI Okay, okay, this isn't the main deal.. but just thought it'll be fine to rub it in on Blizzard's insane comp. For those of you who don't know what the insane AI does: basically the AI collects 2x gold and wood. It's hilarious. Then again, why should Blizzard bother making a pwnage AI when they could use the preceding difficulty AI script and let it gather twice as many resources? How many of you ever got angry and said soemthing like "WTF I beat the gay insane comp with an initial rush?!" |
7. More to come soon... "ppl use a gay word on w3: Uber" - CurryKing
