Bartenieff et al. call for a cohesive and comprehensive methodology in the analysis of movement to augment the study of the socio-cultural context of the role of dance. Based on the data acquired from an analysis of a dance item known as Cholkettu, they attempt to develop a series of tools that could be applied comparatively and cross-culturally. While this article’s prescribed methodology cannot aid me in my research directly (I will never see 19th c. ballet preformed on early pointe shoes), it may help in my analysis by reminding me that pointe work was developed as a form of movement ultimately and that it provides a unique perspective due to this.
