BILL WRIGLEY AS A TEACHING ASSISTANT

I have one teaching assistant course in the 2004/5 term.

ANT 241Y (Erindale Campus): ABORIGINAL PEOPLES OF NORTH AMERICA

This course addresses the prehistory, ethnohistory, and ethnology of aboriginal cultures of North America's indigenous people. It explores their kinship, social organization, political structure, trade relations, economics, technology, art, and religion. The major focus is, but not exclusively, on the First Nations peoples in Eastern North America from the sixteenth century to today.

The course in three parts:

The first part examines the images and myths to which we are exposed that form much of our understanding of the indigenous people of North America.

The second part discusses the cultures of these people from the time of contact to the present day.

The third part looks at modern social, political, and economic issues that exist between the First Nations peoples and the Canadian government, their agencies, and non-native Canadians.

The lecturer is Professor Alexander von Gernet. His office is Room 225A in the North Building. His office hours are on Monday from 11:15 to 1:00. You may also contact him at 905-828-3782.

Classes occur every Monday from 9:10 to 11:00 AM in Room 292 of the North Building

This is a social science course
