Bike
0:00 - Echoes version has a bicycle bell ringing at the
beginning! This is not present on any other version.
Throughout - The vocals seem to be horribly double-tracked, but
they're not... it's artificial double-tracking (ADT), a tape
effect, cranked up to an unhealthily high setting and hard-panned
to an opposite point in the stereo image to make it seem like Syd
did a completely different-sounding take when he double-tracked
the lead vocal (an effective technique he uses on some of his
other songs). Here, they simply ran out of tape tracks to use so
they just plugged the vocal track into an ADT machine... and left
it on even when the background vocals come in!
0:23-24, 0:47-0:48, 1:07-1:08, 1:29-1:31 - The drum crashes here
are dropped into the backing track, rather than overdubbed.
Causes drop-outs and clicks that are more obvious at some points
than others.
1:25-1:27 - Scratches in the left channel, perhaps from the ADT
machine?
1:38, 1:40 - Bass guitar in the left channel clicks twice on the
same note
1:48-1:49 - Clicks as the ADT machine is switched off
2:50-3:04 - Lots of subtle clicks, close to centre
3:10-end - More obvious clicks and scratches on the right channel
