It's January 3rd, 2006 and about 9.42am.
This our last ultrasound photo of Ian. It's very poor quality so you really can't see what it was that worried the technician and made her call Dr Pittini's office.
We went straight round there and were informed that the fluid level in Ian's uterine sack was very low suggesting a leak somewhere. Nancy was put on bed rest and told to drink lots of fluids in the hope that the hole would reseal itself and the level would rise.
After a week the level had not risen. We were given no hope of our little boy surviving even if he made it to term. We had to make a terrible decision to spare him any pain and suffering which he would have endured if we had continued.
So on January 11th, 2006 we informed Dr Pittini and our families and prepared ourselves as best we could for what was to come.
Nancy was admitted to Women's College Hospital on January 12th at around 7am.
Ian was delivered at 2.40am on January 13th, 2006. He never took a breath or opened his eyes or got to experience the world.
He is at peace. His Grandfather Robert is looking after him for us till we see him again. We laid Ian to rest with his Great-Grandma Garvie who loved children and who we loved very much.
