Here are the girls on day 37.
"Aunty" Mina gets to hold Emma.
Madeline has a little mirror in her crib so we can get a look at her even when she's facing the back of the crib.
She had finished feeding and they hooked up an empty syringe to her feeding tube so if she burped anything that came up would have somewhere to go. This helps reduce the bloating she's experiencing and it is making a difference.
She's still got a ways to go before that belly returns to "normal" size but it is getting better and so it puts less pressure on her diaphragm and lungs.
Her nurse Tina took her out for weighing and a nappy change. She weighed 1080gm so an increase of 40gm since yesterday. This is a very good sign. If she continues to gain weight it means she is not burning all her food just to breathe so as she gains weight and strength she's closer and closer to going to the "low-flow" which is where we want her....for now.
It's been a while since Mike got to hold his littlest girl. Her he's giving her the nebulizer therapy to help clear her lungs and nasal passages of mucus and also promote lung development.
Tina put some extra tape on her top lip to protect it from the effects of the CPAP fixture and to stop it moving around and breaking the seal with her nose. But it also has a velcro like hook to it and that sometimes catches on the O2 sensor on her left wrist so she winds up caught up in it. Tina was going to trim it back at midnight.
Hooked back up to the CPAP she settles in for a cuddle with her Dad.
She's relaxed alright! Mike held her for almost 2 hours and she slept through most of it.
Maddy was fed while Mike held her. The regime now is that she goes on the low flow for a couple of hours twice a day but only while she's in her crib. It's working well because her belly is looking better and she's building strength to make the jump full time.
