Histoplasmoma

Pathophysiology:  A marker of old mycotic lung disease (histoplasmosis) but does not in itself exclude active disease.

CXR Findings:  A granuloma with characteristic benign bullseye central calcification.

"Aunt Sophies":

  1. other fungal granulomata
  2. tuberculous granuloma (unusual)
  3. rarely, other benign or malignant nodules with central calcification (eg. cancer, metastasis, hamartoma)
  4. post-radiation treatment of lung cancer with central dystrophic calcification
