Upright Cine Cervical Esophagogram
  • Use 9” FOV
     
  • Ask the patient to swallow a single bolus of EZ-HD barium and a cine mode is captured.
     
  • Lateral followed by AP position images are taken on cine
     
  • Use a frame rate of 3 per second and the Last Image Hold mode.
     
  • Always start with lateral view in case patient aspirates barium.
     

 

  • The patient is in the upright Left Lateral position for an Upright Cine Cervical Esophagogram. 
     

  • The lateral view will show pathology such as aspiration, Zenker’s diverticulum, cricopharyngeal bar, etc. 
     

  • This view is followed by the AP cine esophagogram view.
     

  • Sometimes an Oblique view may be necessary especially for Zenker’s diverticulum.
