- All SBFT exams are done either following an UGI or de novo.
- The barium used is Ultra R diluted to 30-45% w/v. You can add
10-15 cc of Gastrografin to shorten the transit time. You can also
use liquid Entero Vu.
- Films are taken every 15 minutes, with each film checked by a
radiologist and abnormal areas are radiographed.
- There should be a minimum of TWO
14x17 radiographs taken on every patient, even if barium has
reached the colon at 15 minutes.
- Spot films, with and without compression of the terminal ileum
and pelvic small bowel loops (if filled with too much barium) are
taken.
- All areas of barium filled small bowel should be palpated and
abnormal areas radiographed.
CHECK ALL FILMS BEFORE THE PATIENT IS DISCHARGED.
