Case Summary

Diagnosis:  Fibromuscular Hyperplasia


Clinical hints:

This is an hereditary or early developmental dysplasia which may lead to renal artery aneurysms. A cause of hypertension in young patients. If unilateral, may treat medically; if bilateral, surgically.


Radiological Pearls:
  • may see filling defects on IVP
     
  • may see "cystic areas" U/S
     
  • definitive Dx: need angiogram
     
  • typical "concertina" effect
