Case Summary

Diagnosis:  Aspiration Pneumonia


Clinical hints:

Alcoholic, only mild fever & chills, productive cough without grossly purulent sputum.  This patient did not have secondary bacterial pneumonia. He was lucky!


Radiological Pearls:
  • focal or diffuse air space disease
     
  • in gravitationally dependent sites
     
  • often with secondary infection
     
  • rapid resolution if NOT infected
