Summary
Diagnosis: Dissecting Aortic Aneurysm
Clinical hints:
This hypertensive woman had a dissection extending from the
proximal arch to the left common iliac artery. Her ascending
aorta was aneurysmally dilated. Type A aneurysms are usually
treated surgically; type B medically.
Radiological Pearls:
- chest film often abnormal
- dynamic CT: widely used
- if patient stable, MRI +sensitive
- transesophageal ultrasound used
