Case Summary

Diagnosis:  Nitrofurantoin Lung


Clinical hints:

This patient has a background of chronic lung disease (emphysema). He had been on long term nitrofurantoin therapy for urinary tract infections, with diffuse drug-induced interstitial changes seen.


Radiological Pearls:
  • fibrotic changes most common
     
  • may see bizarre patterns
     
  • may see nodules or adenopathy
     
  • effusions (drug-induced lupus)
