Day 1: Drive from Calgary to Waterton Lakes Nat'l Park.

Day 2: Relaxing & exploring above Wall Lake. (Original plan was to hike the Akamina ridge, but it was closed due to nearby forest fires in the U.S.)

A thin layer of ice created an interesting subject.

Day 3: The famous Crypt Lake hike.  Much of the hike is above treeline, following a valley whose river cascades several times in addition to the large Crypt Falls below Crypt Lake. (left)

Before reaching the final lake, you have to go through a tunnel carved out of the cliff. (right)

Day 5: Carthew Alderson Hike. Scramble up Carthew, but my foot hurts too much to do Alderson (from a blister), so Marek and Nat do it alone. (no photos online yet)

Day 6: Drive from Waterton National Park to Yoho National Park in B.C, stock up on groceries, and set up camp in Yoho.

Our campsite, below thundering Takakkaw Falls.

Day 7: The amazing Iceline hike above Takakkaw valley.  We decide to hike off-trail below the President, climbing alongside a glacier until it gets too dangerous to continue.

Below the glacier, hundreds of waterfalls flow into the valley.  Note the scale of the one on the right.

Panorama from the highest point in our little off trail adventure. (below) Note the size of 380m (1250ft) Takakkaw falls in the background!  It was incredible to see the size of the Waputik Icefield that feeds the falls!

Day 8: Hiking in the Lake O'Hara region.  We attempt to scramble up Mt. Yukness, but a hail/thunderstorm turns us back 100m (vertical) from the top.  Panoramas to come!

Note: Panoramas were stitched with Panorama Tools and PTOpenGui. Adobe Photoshop was used for colour correction, cropping, and everything else! Irfanview made the template for this webpage, and I fixed it up and made it pretty.
