Erin Grainger moves from opera to musicals to operetta as a performer
and as a director. Her experiences directing and teaching music theatre
have been for the Savoy Society of McGill University, the National Music
Camp of Canada, Etobicoke School of the Arts, the University Settlement
Music School, and within the McGill campus community in Montréal. As a
music professional she has coached and conducted for the Toronto
Mendelssohn Youth Choir, Orpheus Choir of Toronto, and the Ontario Place
Performing Arts Festival. Erin's recent work with the McGill Savoy
Society has been as stage director, vocal coach, and chorus master. This
winter, Erin sings Ruth in The Pirates of Penzance and in the
Chœur de l'Opéra de Montréal.
As a mezzo-soprano soloist Erin enjoys theatrical repertoire of all shapes and sizes. She has performed with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, L'orchestre symphonique de Longueuil, Summer Opera Lyric Theatre, Orpheus Choir of Toronto, is on the roster of the Chœur de l'Opéra de Montréal. Roles have included Ruth in The Pirates of Penzance, the title role in Rinaldo, The Mother in The Consul, Zita in Gianni Schicchi, and Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro. Erin has created roles in premiere productions including Naomi in Ruth, part of a trilogy of operas by Canadian composer Ronald Beckett, and Longfellow in Julian Wachner's Evangéline Revisited. Oratorio performances have included Mozart Requiem, Saint-Saëns Oratorio de Noël, Handel Messiah, Utrecht Jubilate & Dixit Dominus, Haydn Paukenmesse, and Vivaldi Gloria. Erin also sings recitals with "Fête Coloniale" a piano-voice chamber ensemble for classical fans and the classically-curious. Erin holds a Master of Music degree from McGill University and undergraduate degrees in education and music from the Universities of Western Ontario and Toronto. She has family roots in the Ottawa Valley and makes her home in Montréal. |
