Haiwei Dong received his Ph.D from Kobe University (Japan) in 2010 and M.Eng. degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China) in 2008, respectively.
He is currently a Principal Researcher in Ottawa Research Center, Huawei Technologies Canada and an an Adjunct Professor at School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Ottawa. Prior to that, he was a Principal Engineer in Artificial Intelligence Competency Center, Huawei Technologies Canada, a Research Scientist in the University of Ottawa, a Postdoctoral Fellow in New York University, a Research Associate in the University of Toronto, a Research Fellow of Young Scientist in Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), a Science Technology Researcher in Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
He holds the position of Ajunct Professor at the University of Ottawa. To date, he has co-supervised 12 PhD students, 20 Master students, 3 Research Engineers, and 6 Interns. He serves as Associate Editor of IEEE Consumer Electronics Magazine, Column Editor of IEEE Multimedia Magazine, and Associate Editor of ACM Transactions on Multimedia Computing, Communications, and Applications.
He was invited to give presentations on his research work in many prestigious universities/institutes, including University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Chinese University of Hong Kong, McMaster University, King's College London, Heidelberg University, German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, Swiss AI Lab IDSIA, etc.
His research projects were reported by many media, including New Scientist Magazine, Kobe Newspaper, uOttawa Gazette, etc.
He is a registered Professional Engineer in PEO, a Senior Member of IEEE, and a Senior Member of ACM.
