Elfin Skimmer

Nannothemis bella

Elfin Skimmer, Nannothemis bella, male
This is the smallest dragonfly in North America. It inhabits fishless bogs. I photographed this male in Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario during July, 2005.

Elfin Skimmer, Nannothemis bella, female
Females are patterned like a wasp and when you see one flying in low vegetation they indeed are quite a good wasp mimic. I photographed this female in Algonquin Provincial Park during June, 2006.
