The Digital Divide

Introduction to the Divide:

Information is the most valuable asset one can obtain.  Those with access to information hold the keys to success and those that are able distribute information are the ones that possess power within our society.  In this current age of fast pace information sharing, it is crucial for individuals and nations to not fall behind in technology and information access due to its importance in global community. 

Falling behind in technology can be due to many uncontrollable factors but there are situations where technology insufficiency can be altered and improved.  Global division factors like differences between countries’ physical access to technology and hardware can be assisted by wealthier nations to reduce the difference in technological access.  Social division within one nation, which includes divisions by gender, social class, race, and individual disabilities, can be minimized through educational programs and political policies. 

There is still a lot hope for those that do not have access to technology and information.  There has been many attempts to reduce the gap between the haves and have-nots, and will continue to be a global effort in diminishing the digital divide.
