Chalons-sur-Marne

This town is located 150 km east of Paris. In September 1712, James III and VIII decided to leave France since Louis XIV was about to sign the Treaty of Utrecht requiring that James not live there. He proceeded towards Bar-le-Duc, but stopped at Chalons (sixty km to the west) to wait for a passport from the Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI.
