The Texas State University MAES Science Extravaganza™

This is a full day event of hands-on interactive engineering and science presentations designed to give students a unique opportunity to learn about various fields in a fun and educational environment. Equally important, the extravaganza gives an ethnically diverse group of students an opportunity to visit a university campus and meet college students and professionals with similar backgrounds. The event has created a collaborative partnership between academia, government and industry sponsors that share an interest in the education and development of our future leaders.

In 2001 several MAES student and professional chapters hosted a Science Extravaganza™. This trend has continued with events taking place in various parts of the nation and receiving the same amount of success and acceptance. Without question, the Science Extravaganza™ has become one of the most influential educational programs conducted by the Society of Mexican American Engineers and Scientists.

Dr. Melbye volunteered his time to talk to these young students, approximately 200 fifth and sixth graders. The topic of the day was "What is a Forensic Anthropologist?" Needless to say, the students had a lot of questions and they each received a personalized "Certificate of Attendance" which was bordered with dancing skeletons, from Dr. Melbye before they left at the end of the day.
