Proto Planetary  Accretion Disk Formation

I spent a summer working with Dr. Pawel Artymowicz at the University of Toronto, Scarborough Campus working on the simulation of this topic. He was a professor of a galactic dynamics course I was taking and he would often tangentially ramble about his interests. He is a diverse character and you should see his page. The team consisted of six people including Pawel. We assembled two custom workstation computers and with the intent to simulate protoplanetary accretion disk formation with radiation pressure. The details of this project are given here. Built two workstation computers with four GPUs each in a cluster using infini band and simulated proto-planetary formation with a team of 5 others. Under the supervision of Pawel Artymowicz. Still an on-going interest of mine from the thoeretical and technical side.

Quantitative Finance

Working on a comprehensive model that can identify over and under priced securities, and changes in volatility. Incorporates many different methodologies including agent simulation to develop a pareto-optimal porfolio, jump-diffusion processes with maximal entropy estimations of moving volatility, and prediction with SMC, mixture-ensembles, decision trees, and neural networks. Aim is to identify when an instrument is over or under priced.

MEG in TTF-CA

Looked for direct evidence of multiple electron generation in charge transfer crystal tetrathiafulvalene-p-chloranil (TTF-CA). We strive to observe the generation of multiple electrons through photo induced phase transitions in TTF-CA. This is in support of the TTF-CA group at Parma University in Italy. This is funded by the THz- laser physiks group at Universitaet Konstanz.

Controlled much of the project. Worked in collaboration with Alexej Pashkin in the femtosecond THz laser lab.

Epoch of Reionization

This project is sponsored by many Canadian, and Indian sources including government and industry. The project strives to understand the early universe after the big bang but before structure formation. At this period there was no visible light and thus we must rely on the whimsical 21cm radiation given off by neutral hydrogen to build a structural evolution of these "dark ages".

Collected 21cm data during the epoch of reionization at the Giant Meterwave Telescope (GMRT) with a 5 person team. Around the clock work for 2 months. Much preparation and hard work to mitigate ground based radio frequency interference around 150MHz. Supervised by Ue-Li Pen of University of Toronto. In collaboratoin with CITA.

General Interests

I'm currently training for an Ironman. I speak English and German. I am learning French and Maori. I attempt to cook gourmet, and bake delicious, food and pastries. I practice traditional calligraphy, poetry, and painting. I have a good hat collection. I play an compose music. I'm an avid gardener and activist. I travel frequently. Sometimes I bring my longboard with me when I travel. I enjoy nature.

Events

Canadian Undergraduate Physics Conference (CUPC)

25 October to 29 October, 2012 I will attend CUPC in Vancouver and UBC. I'll be giving a talk about my research in Konstanz. I'm still in the process of getting funding for that.

Nuit Blanche

29 September, 2012 20:00 to 00:00 I present an exhibt of contemporary art as I give multiple lectures on the mathematics of physics, finance, and astrophysics at the corner of Queen St W and Bay St. I will compete with the artisans of Toronto through sharing what I love. UPDATE-Went splendid!

Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA) Conference 2013

Last year I attended the 2012 CNa conference and loved it so much I'm going back. Networking with nuclear industry personel during the day, and open bars and gourmet banquets at night, with like minded (and rather attractive) people.
