"VISA, MasterCard, or AMEX?"It was a night well-spent.
So, upon Mick's invitation, I joined her in volunteering for picking up donation calls at the Canadian Red Cross. Tonight we had the tsunami relief special on the Chinese TV station, hence all the calls were from Chinese living across Canada. At first it was quite scary, since I never did something like this before, but once I got the hang of it, it wasn't so bad. Much to my delight everyone who called in was very nice, some even initiated convo with me (which, for some reason, bugged Mick...I'm sorry if my voice is charming & SEXAY...=P)...that made things a lil bit easier, & by the 5th or 6th call I was already getting the hang of it. I spoke Cantonese throughout, with only one call I did in English, & it was only because I thought the guy didn't speak Cantonese & he thought I didn't...but in the end we realized we both made a bad assumption. =P Anyway, highest single donation for me was $1000 from a very generous man, while the majority donated $100. It touched me how generous these people were, & here I'd like to say,
GOOD FOR YOU & THANK YOU!!I got quite a few out-of-towners, with Vancouver at the top of the list. I also got people from Winnipeg, Calgary, Quebec, & some unknown town in Nova Scotia. Clinton, BC was probably the farthest city I got. It was from a man who didn't know his address. But that's okay, I did manage to get his phone number, so someone can follow up on his tax receipt if needed...
I'm so glad I got to do this tonight because as soon as I heard about the disaster, I wanted to something about it, yet I never knew how & didn't have the time to. So I donated some money, though I couldn't help but feel that was inadequate. Thankfully I finally got a chance to do more, & since I'm free as a bird this weekend, I agreed immediately when Mick asked me. I love how things worked out. =) I hope everyone who's reading this will do your best to try & help out in one way or another...please??
P.S. I went to the washroom like 5 friggin' times. It's my bad habit of drinking non-stop when a cup of water is placed in front of me; I just never put it down. Not to mention you do get quite thirsty from talking so much in 3 hours...
P.P.S. I ended up knowing how to distinguish between the 3 credit card types even without having the caller telling me. You always learn something, indeed. And go VISA.
P.P.P.S. My right ear is now hurting from that stupid piece of shit headphone of mine. ARGH.
