Although Kate was not only a law-abiding citizen but also a former policewoman, she allowed Mike to sit snuggled close to her, her arm around him tightly, rather than in the back in a seat belt, as she drove back to the Hyperion as fast as she felt comfortable. She couldn't let him go. Mike could feel the love and the relief flowing from her. He could almost feel her praying, as she said "Thank you, God," over and over in her mind.

Lindsey, handing the phone to Fred, raced upstairs and came down with sheets, towels, and a pillow, which he spread on the floor. "Lie down, Pooh." He took the phone from her and knelt between her legs. "Okay, Christian, tell me what to do." Fred was moaning with the contractions. "All right, I'll check." He relayed the number of fingers she was dilated to her doctor on the other end of the line. "We're there, Chris. No, I'm not afraid. I helped Aunt Maeve deliver my twin brother and sister when I was ten and, of course, I was Kate's Lamaze coach when Patty was born. Of course I would have had you deliver Patty, if I had thought you'd be willing to come to Tampa to do it!"

He laughed. "You were Kate's OB-GYN before we left here, though, but we weren't married then. Kate Lockley. Yes, the baby's father was that television star or, as I call him, Two-Face."

"Lindsey!" Fred yelled. She grabbed for his hand. "Help me!" He could feel her tensing up as a contraction hit.

"Tell her to push hard," Dr. Christian Scott said through the phone.

"Come on, Pooh, push."

"You try to push a basketball out!" Her fingernails dug into his hand. Suddenly Lindsey missed the prosthesis, but not really much. She yelled again.

"It's starting to crown, Chris. I see the top of the head." Lindsey tried to stay calm, but Fred was so small.

Just then Kate and Mike ran into the lobby. "Daddy!" Mike ran up to Lindsey and hugged him tight.

"What's going on, Lindsey?" She looked at Fred, who was writhing on the floor. "She's in labor?"

"NO! I just enjoy lying on the floor screaming with my brother between my legs!" Fred said sarcastically. "Do something! Make it stop!"

Kate knelt by Fred's head. Mike looked at Fred and touched her gently. "Don't be afraid. Daddy and Mommy will help you."

"Kate, please get a damp cloth to wipe her forehead and maybe some cracked ice or a lollipop. Her mouth is dry." He turned back to the phone. "Okay, Chris, now what?"

"When the next contraction comes, she has to push hard. Get ready. Do you have something to wrap the baby in?"

"I have a clean pillowcase. It shouldn't be much longer now. Should I have Kate sterilize some scissors? Okay." He called toward the kitchen. "Darling, can you boil some water quickly and put a pair of scissors in for cutting the cord?" He shook his head. "I wish Wes were here. He should be here for the birth."

Wes, meanwhile, had his hands full trying to keep the immobilization spell going. "It's beginning to wear off, Angel."

"Then one of you grab Lilah and someone else grab Linwood. If you can, get Gavin, but don't worry if you can't. Let's get out of here!" Angel punched another guard and drop-kicked a demon. "And, Wes, call the police now. There's got to be evidence of a number of crimes here. We need them to get here before evidence is destroyed but after we're gone."

Groo picked up a guard and threw him at two others. "I have Lilah."

"And I've got Linwood." He headed for the door. "Let's go."

Gunn grabbed Gavin. "I'm outa here with the Weasel." The five, carrying their captives, ran for the door. A guard grabbed Wesley's leg, but Gunn hit him with Gavin.

Kate came back with some chips of ice in a glass and a damp cloth. "What does Fred mean, her brother?"

"Those visions she was having were of our mom giving birth to the twins. She's my little sister Winnie." He turned to Mike. "Please hold the phone for me right by my ear. I'm going to need both hands."

Kate sponged Fred's forehead and then slipped a little cracked ice into her mouth. "How wonderful! I'm so happy for you."

"I'm glad you're happy," Fred moaned between gritted teeth. "At least one of us is!"

She began to writhe as she felt another contraction coming on.

"Push, Pooh, push!"

"You push, dammit!"

"Come on, Pooh Bear. You can do it. This needs to be a good one. Now, Pooh!"

"Come on, Fred, sweetie. I did it. You can, too." Kate gently sponged her forehead.

"Arrrrrgh! I can't!"

"This is it, Pooh. Push!" As Lindsey held out his hands, the baby's head emerged. "Chris, the head is out."

"You have to turn the baby a little so the shoulders slip out. Be very careful of her neck."

As he supported the baby's head, he gently turned her body. The shoulders slipped out and then Fred's little girl was out into the world. "She's here, Winnie. Your daughter." He laid the little girl on Fred's stomach.

Fred reached her hand out and touched her daughter gently. Kate lifted her head so she could see her better. "She's so tiny."

"She's perfect, Fred. Look at those little fingers and toes." Kate remembered her first vision of Patty. "She's a little smaller than Patty was, maybe six pounds or so."

"Can I hold her?"

"Just let me finish up here, Pooh." Lindsey was following Dr. Scott's directions with regard to the placenta. He cut the cord. "I guess that's it, Chris."

"I'll be by as soon as I can to check on her. Who's her pediatrician? Samantha Brasher? I'll see if she can stop by too. I can't see taking Fred and the baby to the hospital now."

"We'll take good care of them. I'm looking forward to seeing you."

After he had cleaned Fred up a little, he carried her upstairs to one of the bedrooms while Kate followed with the baby. Mike trailed behind. "This is your Aunt Fred, Mike. My little sister. Just like Beth will be for you." Then he suddenly remembered that Mike wasn't his any more. He belonged to Angel, and he'd stay here with his father. Lindsey had lost him. Beth would have a big sister but no brother. He and Kate and Patty would go home the way they came, just the three of them. He fought back tears. He couldn't show any sadness now. It was such a wonderful day for Winnie!

Mike felt the sadness. "What's wrong, Daddy?" He felt very confusing thoughts coming from his Dad, or not his Dad. He didn't understand.

"I was thinking about the pain Aunt Fred went through, that's all."

Daddy was lying to him. Why?

Kate and Lindsey settled Fred into bed, the baby tucked in the crook of her arm. "Rest now. When you're ready, we'll get one of Cordelia's old bassinettes to put her in."

"Her name is Lindsay. Lindsay Elaine." Fred looked at Lindsey and smiled. "After my long lost brother and my dead sister." She kissed her daughter on the forehead. "Thank you, Lindsey. You too, Kate."

Lindsey kissed her forehead. "Rest, Pooh. You worked really hard. I love you. And I love Lindsay Elaine." He, Kate, and Mike quietly left the room.

As they reached the foot of the stairs, Anne and Cordelia, each carrying a twin, came in. Patty held their hands. "Mommy! Daddy! Mikey!" Patty ran to her brother and hugged him tightly. "We got ice cream."

"I wish I had ice cream," Mike said, hugging Patty back.

"I'll get you some from the refrigerator," Anne said, leading the two children to the kitchen after handing Adam back to his mother.

"What's gone on here?" Cordelia asked, looking at the bloody sheets on the floor.

"Fred had her baby. Lindsey delivered it." Kate began to gather the sheets.

"I just can't see everything, darn it! Are they upstairs?" At Kate's nod, Cordelia began to float upstairs, her twins laughing and cooing as they always did when she floated.

Kate looked at Lindsey. He had been so buoyant, so happy. Now he looked as if he wanted to cry. Was it a letdown from the excitement? "What is it, darling?"

"I just remembered that Mike is Angel's. We'll have to leave him here with his father. I'm going to miss him so much, Katy." She dropped the sheets on the floor and hugged her husband as tight as she could. "I have to stay calm for Mike's and Patty's sakes, but I'm dying inside."

"I've been trying not to think about it myself and just focus on Fred. For now, let's just be happy we rescued him."

"I'll try for the sake of our kids." But how can I face this, he thought. God, please help me get through this.

Angel came bursting through the door carrying Linwood, followed by Groo and Lilah, Gunn and Gavin, Lorne, and Wesley. "Did Kate get Mike here?"

Lindsey forced a smile. "He's in the kitchen with Anne, getting ice cream. He couldn't let Patty have any without having some himself."

"Sounds like a real boy," Gunn said, setting Gaving roughly on his feet. "We need to tie these three up."

Kate walked over to Lilah looking angrier than Lindsey or Angel had ever seen her. "You stole my son." She swung hard and punched Lilah in the mouth. "You put my daughter at risk." She swung again. Lilah brought up her knee, aiming at Kate's abdomen, but Groo swung her behind him before she could connect.

"You do not kick a pregnant woman in the abdomen. Even you cannot be that evil!"

"This valkyrie attacked me first." Lilah cowered behind the Pylean.

"You could have hurt Patty or the baby with those anesthetic darts. How evil can you be, Lilah?"

"You sanctimonious wuss," Lilah said. "As if you've never done anything wrong in your life. Don't you dare judge me."

Lorne and Wes were tying Linwood and Gavin up. Angel came over to Lilah. "That's my job." He went into full vamp face. "Come with me." He pulled her into the office and shut the door.

As Wes pushed the two male lawyers down onto the settee, a very attractive couple entered the Hyperion. Looking around with a bemused expression on his face, the man asked, "Have we come at a bad time?"
