Critics raved about it. "It was the most amazing performance of Hamlet I've ever seen," the New York Times columnist stated.
"Fantastic acting!" The Washington Post stated.
"The scenes between Claudius and Gertrude sizzled with eroticism, as did Hamlet's scene with Gertrude in her bedchamber." This, of course, was the New York Post.
"Yeah, sure," Lenny Briscoe muttered. "Really amazing." He looked around the dressing room where the bodies of the actresses who had been scheduled to play Ophelia and Gertrude lay, white and drained of blood.
"Gwyneth Paltrow and Glenn Close dead. Unbelievable," his partner Ed Green replied.
In the men's dressing room the bodies of Kevin Spacey and Paul Rudd lay, also drained. Jack McCoy and Serena Southerlyn stood in the middle of the room, shaking their heads.
Outside in the anteroom two members of the audience stood, waiting to be questioned. The young man held his new bride tightly, although it wasn't necessary. She had seen much worse in her career with the L.A. P.D. So, for that matter, had he when he worked for the evil law firm of Wolfram & Hart. Their companions, whom they had met in New York for dinner and the Shakespeare in the Park, had left as quickly as possible. No one could know that Jarod and Miss Parker had spent the evening together; she was not quite ready for her big getaway from the Centre and her marriage to the man she had loved since both of them were 12 years old.
"I have to admit that I'm amazed. I wouldn't have thought Spike had it in him. The scene in the graveyard was amazing. I wonder whose skull he was holding? I thought I saw a little blood on it." Lindsey kissed his wife on the cheek while his hand slowly moved up from her waist to her bosom.
She pushed his hand down and looked at him with teasing eyes. "Later, darling. Do you want to get us arrested for public lewdness?"
"Only if they'll throw us in solitary together!" He laughed. "Wasn't Drusilla amazing as Ophelia? I almost cried when she did her mad scene. And her singing was just off-key enough. Perfection!"
"I couldn't believe Angelus and Darla. It's a good thing they stopped when they did or THEY would have been arrested for public lewdness." Kate could hardly keep from laughing. "And then Darla and Spike! Well!"
"You know, Katy, there is supposed to be an underlying current of eroticism there. Oedipus complex and all that."
"Thus speaks the college boy. I wish I could have had more of an education."
"You don't need it, sweetheart. You're the smartest woman I know. After all,"
he paused.
"You married me! I know." They laughed together and shared a few kisses.
As Jack McCoy and Serena Southerlyn came out to question them, Serena did a double-take. The blonde was her exact double. "My God, Jack, she looks like me!"
"I can't see it. Do you see a resemblance?" he asked the young man. What was his name again? He consulted his notes. Oh, yes, Lindsey McDonald.
"Nope." Kate is much, much prettier, Lindsey thought. So is Darla, but he wouldn't say THAT out loud.
"Do you have any idea who these people are? Did they make an announcement at the beginning of the show?"
"No," Lindsey lied. Kate shook her head too. Nobody would believe them. After all, everyone knows there are no such thing as vampires!
A few questions later and they were allowed to leave. They left their New York address, the Waldorf Astoria honeymoon suite, with the police. As they strolled down the sidewalk, they heard a voice behind them.
"Lindsey! Kate! I thought I saw you in the audience."
"Angel! Or should I say Angelus? You were absolutely wonderful tonight." Lindsey fingered the cross he was wearing around his neck. Kate wore one, too. You just can't be too careful.
"Would you like to join us for a drink and wait for the papers? I'm looking forward to reading our reviews." Darla slipped her arm into Angel's.
"Delighted. I just wish you hadn't killed Kevin Spacey. I love his acting." Kate turned to follow them.
"Dru was thirsty. What can I say?" He led them down the avenue. "How about The Plaza for drinks and dessert?"
"Sounds good. You can toast our wedding and we'll toast four outstanding performances." He paused. "You are full, aren't you?"
"And you're wearing crosses. Tonight we'll just be old friends together." Dru and Spike joined them and the six headed for The Plaza.
