Urothelial Papilloma

 

Epidemiology:

    • 1% of bladder tumours
    • Most commonly seen in younger patients

 

Common sites:

    •  

 

Gross features:

    • small (0.5-2.0cm)
    • delicate papillary structure attached to mucosa by a stalk

 

Histologic features:

    • true papillae covered with histologically normal urothelium
      • polarity maintained
      • intact umbrella cell layer
    • no more than 7-8 cell layers
    • mitoses rare
    • inverted papilloma:
      • anastomosing cords of bland urothelium extending into lamina propria
