Gross features:
- petichial hemorrhages in mammillary
bodies and periventricular (3rd and
4th)
Histologic features:
- foci of hemorrhage
and necrosis
- earliest change is
dilated capillaries
- then they leak red
cells
- then infiltration
of macrophages
- finally
development of cystic space with hemosiderin-laden
macrophages
