Dysplasia in IBD
Epidemiology and Etiology:
- Patients with
UC for at least 8y are at risk
- Non-adenomatous
(mass-like) raised dysplasia are highly associated with carcinoma
Common sites:
Gross features:
- flat is
endoscopically undetectable
- raised (DALM) is
endoscopically seen
- adenoma-like
(polyp)
- non-adenoma-like (large,
sessile, irregular masses, strictures, or ill-defined nodules with a
broad base)
Histologic features:
- indefinite
for dysplasia
- changes
approaching low-grade dysplasia
- abundant
inflammation / ulceration in the area
