Cholangiocarcinoma
Gross features:
- Tree-like mass or
tumor nodule
- May have extensive
intrahepatic metastases
- Firm and gritty
(sclerotic)
- Rarely bile stained
- Metastases to lymph
nodes in 50%
- Distant metastases
often
Histologic features:
- Resemble adenocarcinomas, with a wide range of
morphologic variation
- Most have clearly
defined glandular and tubular structures lined by cuboidal to low columnar
cells
- Dense, sclerotic
stroma
- Vascular invasion
may be prominent
- “Mixed variants”
with areas of HCC, separated or co-mingled
