Mucinous Cystadenoma / Adenofibroma
Epidemiology and Etiology:
- Wide age range (50 y. mean)
Common sites:
Gross features:
- Unilateral (95%)
- Smooth surface
- Multilocular
or unilocular (less often) cystic
- A few cm to > 30 cm (mean 10 cm)
- Adenofibroma:
- Associated dermoid cyst or Brenner tumour (10%)
Histologic features:
- Simple, non-stratified mucinous epithelium
- Gastric foveolar-type
- Instestinal type containing goblet cells and sometimes neuroendocrine cells
or Paneth cells
- Focal papillae maybe
- Adjacent ovarian stroma may be cellular
- Extravasated
mucin (small areas) maybe
- Mucinous granulomas maybe
- Adenofibroma
