Ovarian Cancer
Staging
Staging (note stage is same as T
value in TNM):
- I – limited to
ovaries
- Ia – one ovary, intact capsule, no
surface involvement, peritoneal washings negative
- Ib – both ovaries, intact capsule, no
surface involvement, peritoneal washings negative
- Ic – one or both ovaries, with one or
more of: ruptured capsule, surface involvement, positive peritoneal
washings
- II – pelvic
extension or implants
- IIa – uterus or fallopian tube,
peritoneal washings negative
- IIb – other pelvic tissues, peritoneal
washings negative
- IIc – pelvic extension with positive
peritoneal washings
- III – outside the pelvis
- IIIa – microscopic disease only
- IIIb – macroscopic disease, <= 2cm
- IIIc – >2cm or regional nodes
positive
- IV – extraperitoneal metastasis (does not include liver
capsule)
Other important prognostic
information:
- Lymphovascular invasion (look just under surface of
ovary)
