- yellow-brown
- encapsulated
- ovoid
- may be only 2 or 3
(10%)
Histologic features:
- normal up to 30%
fat
- increases up to
age 25
- obese people have
more fat
- chief cells (most
of gland)
- clear to dark pink
cytoplasm
- polygonal
- central, round,
uniform nucleus
- oxyphil cells
- slightly larger
than chief cells
- singly or in small
clusters
- acidophilic
cytoplasm
- tightly packed
with mitochondria
- sparse or no
secretory granules
