- cytologically similar to normal basal cells
- often pallisading at edges
- may have prominent
nucleoli
- may form a distinct
nodule (“basal cell adenoma”)
- may have cribriform pattern
- lack of desmoplastic response, perineural
invasion, necrosis, or widespread infiltration into surrounding tissue
