Polymorphous Low-Grade Adenocarcinoma (PLGA)

 

Epidemiology and Etiology:

·         40s to 60s peak

 

Common sites:

·         Palate

·         Minor salivary glands

·         (rare in major salivary glands)

 

Gross features:

·          

 

Histologic features:

·         Bland epithelial cells and myoepithelial cells

·         Solid, cystic, ductal / glandular, cribriform, papillary, and lobular patterns

·         Background matrix can be hyalinized or myxoid

·         Difficult to differentiate from pleomorphic adenoma sometimes

·         Infiltration of surrounding gland

·         Perineural spread predilection

·         Necrosis absent usually

·         Mitoses low usually
