Erythema Induratum

 

Epidemiology:

    • Adolescents and menopausal women

 

Common sites:

    • Lower legs

 

Gross features:

    • Erythematous nodule
      • Usually progresses to ulceration

 

Histologic features:

    • Early lesion:
      • Necrotizing vasculitis of small to medium-sized arteries and veins in the deep dermis and subcutis
    • Granulomatous inflammation of the fat lobule
      • Zones of caseous necrosis
