Sarcoma Grading

· FNCLCC (Federation Nationale des Centres de Lutte Contre le Cancer) system:

· Differentiation (1-3):

· Each sarcoma type has been assigned 1-3 points for differentiation

· Mitotic rate per 10 HPF (1-3):

· 1 – zero to 9

· 2 – 10 to 19

· 3 – >= 20

· Tumour necrosis (0-2):

· 0 – absent

· 1 – less than half of tumour material

· 2 – more than half of tumour material

· Sum:

· 2-3 – low grade (I)

· 4-5 – intermediate grade (II)

· 6-8 – high grade (III)

· NCI system

· used in US mostly – not as prognostically significant and less reproducible
