Cervical Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Common sites:
Gross features:
- fungating, ulcerating, and infiltrative
patterns
Histologic features:
- foci of stromal invasion:
- irregular contour,
in contrast with surrounding epithelium bound by smooth contour of
basement membrane
- scalloping of the
dermal-epidermal interface at site of invasion
- better
differentiated appearance with abundant cytoplasm and prominent nucleoli
- lymphoplasmocytic infiltrate and/or desmoplastic response in surrounding stroma
- occasional small
focus of keratinization
- keratinization:
- squamous pearls
- individual cells with markedly eosinophilic dense cytoplasm
- intercellular
bridges
- differentiation:
- well-differentiated
– above features are seen readily
- mod-differentiated
– above features seen easily but not extensively
- poorly-differentiated
– above features are focally seen
