Folkfest 2000

Folkfest 2000 was held at the Victoria Inner Harbour starting from Canada Day, July 1 to July 9. The organization committee for the Asia Pacific Kiosk this year included Nelson Lah (President of the Asia Pacific Cultural Association, Geok Tang (Kiosk coordinator), Woh-Peng Yim, Alpina Tang, Sound Tang, Ken Liew, and Janice Wong.
The enthusiasm and the dedication of all the volunteers this year made the entire event an extremely entertaining and enjoyable one! One rainy evening was spent cleaning up, scrubbing and completely decontaminating the kiosk (which looked like it hadn't been cleaned in 10 years). Numerous volunteers gave up their precious evening time to stand around in a windowless kitchen and chop vegetables for several hours non-stop. Now, that takes a lot of will power! Ha, ha! We were so grateful when the "master veggy chopper John" came in to give us a hand. Canada Day at the kiosk selling food was a blast! The crew was absolutely enthralled and excited about serving sweet and sour pork, chop suey, and chow mein to the customers! A "Combo D" (Combo Dave) was advertised during one day...it turned out that 2 males and 1 female were daring enough to try it out! ("kiss me" was written in Korean and Japanese was written under the sign). Two of the night shifts were fortunate enough to attend the World Beat Dance Party at Market Square. Apparently, Nelson was a witness to some of the action and was able to accurately say : "White men can't jump, Chinese men can't dance"....hmmm , who was he referring to???
A billion thanks to all those volunteers who came out to work all those gruelling six hour shifts on site at the kiosk and all those who came out to cut vegetables. You guys are the best!
