Why should I use Radio Userland to publish my web site at UofT?

I've been looking for web publishing program which would let anyone build and maintain a personal website on UTORweb, quickly and easily, without doing a lot of coding. Radio Userland looks like the best choice. Here's why:

  • Radio is very inexpensive;
  • Radio is extremely easy to use, so building your site is simple, simple, simple;
  • You don't have to know anything about html, css, etc. Radio comes with built-in templates, so beginners can have a slick-looking, fully functional site up and running in minutes with the click of a button;
  • All your data, files, images, content, etc., are stored on your computer before you publish them to your UTORweb account -- not on a third-party server somewhere out on the internet. This means that you control your data. This is a very important advantage;
  • When you use Radio, your computer communicates directly with the UTORweb server. This means that you never disclose your UTORweb password to a third party (This is a very important security feature!);
  • Radio is extremely customizable. If you don't like the built-in templates you can completely customize the look of your site, however you see fit;
  • You can use Radio to publish different sites on different servers (or different sites on the same UTORweb account), and each site can have its own look, content and archives, all of which are managed automatically by the same powerful cms;
  • Radio offers a lot of great community-building features, including RSS feeds. With RSS feeds your friends can subscribe to your site and receive your dialy posts as news headlines;
  • Radio supports great web technologies like CSS, RSS, XML, and SOAP so you've got lots of room to grow, expand your skills, and enhance your site;
  • Radio gives you a powerful content management system (cms). Managing a daily web log or news site, or any large site becomes a breeze. If you want to change the look of your site after your've got all kinds of content posted -- no problem! That's the beauty of content management systems. Just change the templates (which are completely customizable) and republish. All the old content shows up with the new format.

The only thing Radio could use more of are manuals and 'how-to' guides. But if you're at UofT and want to use Radio Userland to publish your website on UTORweb, this guide will walk you through it, step by step.
