"I think I found the perfect sock."

++ Hey everyone. This last weekend was quite busy, Carlin and I had so much work to do, we probably dedicated 20 hours on the weekend on Calculus. We also had an essay due today for our Religion class. For this essay I wrote about the differences in the celebration of Christmas between the Roman Catholics and the Eastern Orthodox. Carlin wrote about the conflicts in Palestine.

++ Tomorrow is our Calc test, so we'll be studying a lot of that for the next 20 hours. After so much work lately, I can't even feel like I will be done soon, cause right after the test I have to start studying for my Biology mid-term, which is worth crazy amounts, like 20% of our term mark. Well at least I think thats a big chunk of the mark. I also got my mark for the first term test (TT1) in Organic Chemistry, unfortunately I only got a 63% which is probably what I deserved from the amount of studying i did. Carlin did better than me so she lost her bet. She got a 71% or something. Well I guess I'll go back to the half-angle formulas and the cotangents, or maybe I'll just relax and play some Rise of Nations. Oh, I'd like to say thanks to Tony that left a message here last sunday, I hope things are working out for him in China.

++ Here is a picture of Carlin and I from around a month ago. We were going out for dinner I believe.

++ Hey everyone, I just found a new chemistry drawing applet for Java. It does all sorts of things, you can draw any molecule pretty much and find the pKa, do reactions. but its kind of weird to use... I just need to figure it out. Here is the address if anyone is interested -> http://www.jchem.com/marvin/sketch.html ... however there is even a better one but you need to download it and install it. http://www.planaria-software.com/index.htm

+ The Blind Men and the Elephant
A number of disciples went to the Buddha and said, "Sir, there are living here in Savatthi many wandering hermits and scholars who indulge in constant dispute, some saying that the world is infinite and eternal and others that it is finite and not eternal, some saying that the soul dies with the body and others that it lives on forever, and so forth. What, Sir, would you say concerning them?"

The Buddha answered, "Once upon a time there was a certain raja who called to his servant and said, 'Come, good fellow, go and gather together in one place all the men of Savatthi who were born blind... and show them an elephant.' 'Very good, sire,' replied the servant, and he did as he was told. He said to the blind men assembled there, 'Here is an elephant,' and to one man he presented the head of the elephant, to another its ears, to another a tusk, to another the trunk, the foot, back, tail, and tuft of the tail, saying to each one that that was the elephant.

"When the blind men had felt the elephant, the raja went to each of them and said to each, 'Well, blind man, have you seen the elephant? Tell me, what sort of thing is an elephant?'

"Thereupon the men who were presented with the head answered, 'Sire, an elephant is like a pot.' And the men who had observed the ear replied, 'An elephant is like a winnowing basket.' Those who had been presented with a tusk said it was a ploughshare. Those who knew only the trunk said it was a plough; others said the body was a grainery; the foot, a pillar; the back, a mortar; the tail, a pestle, the tuft of the tail, a brush.

"Then they began to quarrel, shouting, 'Yes it is!' 'No, it is not!' 'An elephant is not that!' 'Yes, it's like that!' and so on, till they came to blows over the matter.

"Brethren, the raja was delighted with the scene.

"Just so are these preachers and scholars holding various views blind and unseeing.... In their ignorance they are by nature quarrelsome, wrangling, and disputatious, each maintaining reality is thus and thus."

Then the Exalted One rendered this meaning by uttering this verse of uplift,

O how they cling and wrangle, some who claim
For preacher and monk the honored name!
For, quarreling, each to his view they cling.
Such folk see only one side of a thing.

++ Hey everyone, bad news, Carlin is really sick she has been having back pains and fevers constantly. I just hope she gets better as soon as possible. Today she was very sick and even then she wrote the Religion mid-term and the Calculus quiz and probably aced both of them... That's my girl showing who's boss. Well tomorrow we both have another mid-term, this time its physics, and she has no choice but writing it. Since only 3 of the 4 tests of this course count, she has the option of not writing it which would make her other 3 tests count. That's unfair though, cause everyone else gets an extra try. Sometimes university is pretty unfair. Well wish us good luck.

++ Weekend is on, but this weekend will be mostly studying so not much fun stuff to look forward to, oh well. Today Carlin and I got our Religion quizzes back, she got 100% on it, that's my girl. I got 87% or so which I'm really happy with.

++ Last Monday was Carlin's "birthdate anniversary", and she got a sweet gift from her roommates Veronica and Teresa, they managed to get several of our professors to sign a birthday card to her. It was awesome they got it from many of them, and how they did it is that they claimed that each one was Carlin's favorite Prof. or TA so most of them were all proud and happy with the news. Well it was funny when they told the stories. Now next week Carlin and I are going to go see the musical "Mamma mia", that should be a lot of fun, and before that we are having a delicious meal in the red tomato, oh yeah. Well anyway I'll stop here to go study... have a good weekend everyone.

++ With two midterms next week, I had to start studying harder this week. Well yesterday was supposed to be a lot of work, but somehow we ended up not doing that much. Carlin and I were busy with things other than school. She had a suite event in her apartment last night "Cookies and milk night". It was good, I drank a lot of milk, and I crave some more right now. Today we had our last lecture for religion and physics before the tests next week. Since I am doing notes on Islam today I decided to update the religion section of the website and make a new link, it should be here soon if anyone is interested.

+ When an untaught ordinary man, who is subject to sickness, not safe from sickness, sees another who is sick, he is shocked, humiliated and disgusted; for he forgets that he himself is no exception. I too am subject to sickness, not safe from sickness, and so it cannot benefit me to be shocked, humiliated and disgusted on seeing another who is sick. When I considered this, the vanity of health entirely left me..
