"Outside of old tokyo a few violent grizzlies victimized a hamburger"

++ Today is friday. I went to school and then after Carlin and I walked downtown to Mountain EC. After that we got some tasty burritos at this place on Peter which was also, 5.99 for these huge tasty burritos. Then as we were walking by Paramount we went in and Ice Age 2 apparently is playing on the theatre so we went in and watched it. It was a lot of fun, not as good as the first one but it still made me laugh quite a bit.

++ Today I got my mark for Org. Chem. TT2 and I did ok, not so ok after I saw the class average... Anyway, I realized that when they marked the mechanism question I made a mistake, but on the marking they didn't give me the marks (obviously), but they deducted 5 marks of the marks I did get for that question. Thats pretty crappy, I am going to ask around see if they did that to everyone. It's also weird that the reason why I lost those marks is because apparently on the anamine mechanism the nitrile group attacks before the protonation. That's all good but I find it weird that I get marks deducted from that even though all these mechanisms are models for something they've never ever isolated or even followed happening experimentally. Am I the only one that finds that weird? The way they mark this test just makes me really frustrated.

++ Carlin and I went to watch V for Vendetta on friday after a delicious dinner at Spring Rolls. The movie was great, I really recommend it to everyone. Very well written and directed. It is based on a comic book. It takes place in a dystopic UK in the near future, and V is a "Terrorist" trying to fulfill Fawkes legacy, which was some guy a few hundred years ago that tried to blow up the parliament in response to the oppresion against catholics in the UK. Well anyway it was good so if you're interested go watch. But I should get moving because I am supposed to meet Carlin in the library in an hour or so, and I need to eat before that.

+ Remember, remember, the fifth of November,
The gunpowder treason and plot.
I know of no reason why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes,
'Twas his intent
To blow up the King and the Parliament.
Poor old England to overthrow.
By God's providence he was catch’d
With a dark lantern and burning match.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!
Hip hip hoorah!
Hip hip hoorah!

A penny loaf to feed ol' Pope,
A farthing cheese to choke him.
A pint of beer to rinse it down,
A faggot of sticks to burn him.
Burn him in a tub of tar,
Burn him like a blazing star.
Burn his body from his head,
Then we'll say ol' Pope is dead.
Hip hip hoorah!
Hip hip hoorah!

"Endogenous opioids? "

++ I was looking up some neurotrasmitters the other day and I ended up finding out that our brain produces endogenous morphine. This compound has the creative name of endomorphine, and is used by the brain as a metabotropic neurotransmitter. Well, that led me to think about how humans can become physically dependent on morphine and I also wanted to know if the brain could become "addicted" to any type of stimulant neurotransmitter. Apparently yes, and there is a lot of current research on this topic nowadays. Perhaps some types of compulsive behaviour or some other disorders (I would imagine that's how addictions happen as well) could be related to some dependancy on a type of brain stimulation. Well I guess that's something I should look up and maybe get informed.

++ 20 hours, 6 hours of lab and two tests. Now you guys know why I am so glad this week is pretty much over. The past few weeks have been pretty crazy, I studied really hard for my Org.Chem test yesterday. I did it aiming for a pass and that actually helped me to calm down since I felt like I had achieved that goal heheheh. I probably ended up doing respectably well. I also got my Writing assignment back for BIO250, which I did ok but I think there is something very wrong about this assignment, the marking seems really arbitrary. Well anyway, I am just glad the year is coming to an end.

++ Yes, I have been working really hard on the last little while. I guess my test results haven't been very good so I'm trying extra hard to keep my marks as good as the first semester. Well the big problems are Physics and Chem. My new Physics prof is gives us tests that are way too hard and long for the one hour we have to write it. Organic Chemistry, well I don't have much to say about that besides the fact that I suck at it and the way they mark the tests doesn't help either. Well now I have to just try to hold on and attempt to keep my marks as high as last year. I also haven't heard anything about summer jobs or anything like that. Things are just not working out as I would like them to.

++ Yesterday I had an interview with a prof. and I think it went pretty well. He studies neurophysiology of sleep, and he's lab seems awesome. Now I just have to wait and see what happens, since he was interviewing more people I won't know anything for sure so fast. Carlin got her genetics mark yesterday and she did very well, 84% and the average was really low so I have to say congratulations there, but I knew she was good at that stuff. Lately I've been mostly trying to finish up my Bio paper for tomorrow, its coming along pretty good I think but the way they mark it is pretty arbitrary so who knows. Well I'll stop here cause I should be writing the stupid paper not this, and I'll leave you with a picture of UC at night. I tried to take some myself but it never turns out that great so I stole one which has the guys name on the bottom, so I'm sure he/she doesn't mind.

++ I'm pretty happy this week is over. It was a lot of work I'll tell you that. I had a physics test on Monday which we did not have enough time and the average was 55%. I got average. This week I also got my mark for the TT1 for CHM247 and guess what? I got a 50%... The average was 60%... Before this week I had never gotten anything bellow a 62% or something around there and this week I broke my record, somehow I don't even care that much. I guess I'm just realizing now that this is second year who cares, I'm doing my best with certain limitation and if that's what I deserve, that's fair. Yesterday I had my PSL test and I think that went ok, if I get anything over 70 I'll be pretty satisfied, of course over 80 would be preferred. Well this next week will be pretty busy again, I have a BIO essay due, CHM and BIO labs, SPA oral presentation and dictation, and I'm meeting with a prof. which will require some psychological preparation.
