++ Hey everyone, I'm now resting at home, playing some wow and eating good food. Carlin is in Paris, so I'm positive that she is having a great time. Exams were alright I think in general I didn't do too badly on them. Besides doing a whole lot of nothing not much is new. My sister is still in Brazil and my parents are working alot so most of the time I'm by myself at home, at least untill they get some time off work. I also started my application to pharmacy, now I just have to complete it and I'll be ready to write their stupid test. We'll see how that goes. Well I really hope that everyone can have a good Xmas holiday, I'm off for now.

"Species-being"
6/12/2006 2:25

++ I'm just about to go to bed, after writing some notes for my ANT204 exam tomorrow. As I read Karl Marx's ideas and criticism on capitalism I just felt like he really has a point. I thought this in class too, when Dr. Wardlow talked about it, but this reminded me of it. I just read that he thinks the commoditization of labor alienates people from this idea of species-being. This idea is that "Free and creative labor is an innate human need. This is like an existential spiritual need. It makes us human.", it makes us part of the machine that produces things so we don't really fulfill this need we have to create. Then he says that commodity fetishism is a result of this alienation, in other words, we feel the need to buy things to fulfill this emptiness we have. All these ideas may seem made up but I really get what he means, and I have to say that unfortunately I actually feel like that sometimes. Not only with buying things, cause I don't actually buy that much stuff, but just in general I always feel this need to create. Even this website, did I ever ask why I created it?

++ Just got back from school, it was raining and I'm soaked, the crappy thing is that I had to leave my house to go to school to get there and the lecture was cancelled. Oh well, I haven't posted in a while, however this time I have actually been busy. I pretty much had 1 lab report due every single week, if not more than one, and then I've been also having other things such as problem sets and all sorts of crap. Well yesterday Carlin and I went to UPSA's pub night, which was pretty fun, I don't usually go to bars, more like never so it was a nice change. I hope Carlin thought that it was asmuch fun as LOST wednesdays :) . Well exams are coming up, next week I have two and the week after I have another one, I can't even believe how close they are, still hasn't hit me really. I've been playing less WOW in the last little while which is good cause I have had more work to do. Right now I'm working on my report for my project course with Dr. Duffin. I'm studying changes in the drive to breath in heart failure patients, some pretty interesting stuff. Well I guess I'll get back to that, I want to do really well on it so I need to put work into it, just two more weeks and then I can relax, do Xmas shopping and then wait for Carlin to come back from Paris. Meanwhile I'll probably play wow like there is no tomorrow.

++ After a long time without posting anything relavant here I am. This last weekend was hell, I had to finish two lab reports for monday, so I basically spent my whole awaking time in front of a computer and books. Well at least that's done and now I can contiue with my other stuff, specially without having to work anymore. Not much else is new happeninig this week, besides the fact that my wednesdays nights aren't the same anymore since there is no more LOST episodes until february. The show was just getting good again. Oh well I guess that can be a good thing in some way that I don't know.

++ I figured I should take a bit of a study break, and after drawing this diagram so many times I decided that maybe if I posted here it would help me memorize it. I think I got it down though. The only thing I don't understand is when should I say drift happens? I'm confused because sometimes it happens after the saccade is over and sometimes it happens before, I think. I dont understand. Today I also had a lecture on diabetes and the mechanism of inhibition of glucagon release by insulin. It was sort of a good informative lecture, specially considering I have so many diabetic relatives. It was also good to learn more and maybe inform my sister about all that, she likes sweets so much and little she knows about all the dangers of that addiction. Well in terms of new not much is going on. I haven't even seen Carlin all that much cause of this test and my freakishly long smooth muscle report. I am really eager for the weekend, and then next week I plan to quit my job :) It's really starting to be an inconvenient, specially now that I'm getting quite a few subjects at the lab. ++ After being really relaxed for a while, I finally got to one of those crazy weeks. It may not even seem like much but a biochem lab on Monday followed by my PSL303 on Friday and a smooth muscle lab report on that same day is not an easy task. Well today I don't have any classes so I have all day to attempt to finish my lab report, which I think is quite doable. I just woke up and I will work on it till I go to bed. Well what else is new, last week I finally had some subjects on my lab, three in total. The first one however, was a 74 year old man on ß-blockers so I doubt his data will count. We just tried him to see how his ventilation would be different in comparison to healthy people and heart failure patients. My other two subjects were somewhat younger and we obtained some pretty good data from them.

++ Today Carlin is coming over for dinner, that will be my break of the day, but a very nice one. Lately she has been surprising not only me, but herself, she is doing extremely well in engineering. She went as far to even say she finds it easier than sciences (molecular biology to be more exact). Well if it is easier or not, I dont know, but I'm really glad that she is finally enjoying her program. On Wow I am very close to getting to lvl 60, my paladin is a lvl 58 since yesterday. There is a lot of expectations for the new expansion, I can hardly wait.

Well besides that school is going alright, after monday's death report I had a pretty ok week, now I just have to finish up another annoying report for biochemistry. I'm really not looking foward to that since the lab was quite boring and I really don't care about titration.

I pretty much have two lab reports due next week, which is pretty crazy considering last year my BIO250 lab report took me over a week to write. Well at least I think I will soon be really used to writting these, which I'm sure will make it a lot easier to do it. That will also facilitate my final report for my project course, which I still have been pretty unlucky finding healthy subjects. I do have one potential person already, I'm just hoping it works out. Well I shouldn't use too much of my time here, I just wanted to quickly update things. Now back to reading journals.

"ROGERS Cable service, a few things you should know before getting their services"
19/09/2006 12:16

++ Well I just moved to a new apartment, and obviously I had to get my internet moved as well. Anyway, ROGERS charge so much for just switching my services, they have a fee for connection, which is normal, not complaining there even though it costs $100 for 20 minutes of their time. Then they also charge me for canceling my internet on my old place, they charge me for canceling the modem rent, which by the way I had the whole time, I was the one that physically brought it to my new place. Which is retarded because they charged me for not only canceling but for getting it again. Then they charge me an extra activation fee which should cover, NOTHING, they clicked a button there to active it. Then they charge my monthly fee plus $20 which they didn't even bother to tell me the reason. It's just 20 dollars they you know, they found necessary to charge. Well after taxes and everything, my move cost me no less than $159. If I knew that I would have switched to Bell on the spot. But again Bell service sucks almost as much since I was supposed to have a phone line by Friday and I still don't. The reason why I'm posting this is so that if anyone is moving and needs to go through what I went, if they read this first they might reconsider they're Internet services. I'm a student that has pretty much no income, I think its really crappy that all of a sudden I have this huge fee that I have to pay which I had no warning of.

Subjects must be males between the age of 35 and 75. The commitment is really small, I would only need the subject to come into the lab for less than 1 hour, the experiment is extremely easy and 100% not invasive. If anyone could help, I would really appreciate that.

Well at least I had a fun weekend, spend some quality time with Carlin, tonight we even went to an event with her parents to watch a new CBC documentary. Carlin's dad is the director of photography for the documentary which I really enjoyed it. It was about the history of Hockey which has everything to do with Canada. I would really recommend everyone to tune in next Sunday to see the second part of the show. It starts at 8PM on the CBC. Well I need to go to bed now because I have stuff to do tomorrow, after a long Arathi Basin weekend I have to say I'm really tired. My wow char is almost lvl 50.

Now this week I guess I'll be getting ready for the new year, going to my lab and learning how to calibrate the equipment better. Getting my school supplies and books. Well besides that not much has been going on. Anyway, I'll tell you about the good things that have been happening. Last weekend I went to Algonquin park with Carlin, we stayed with some friends of her dad and went canoeing and hiking. It was a lot of fun, the park is enormous however I personally liked Tobermory better. Unless you are planning on going on huge hikes and canoe trips, I wouldn't go to that particular park. ++ Oi everyone, it's been a long time since the last time I posted. Well a lot has happened and I'll try to briefly go over what I've been doing. First of all, Carlin and I went to watch the musical SPAMalot August 1st. It was to celebrate 3 years of our healthy relationship, and it was a lot of fun, we not only did this but we also ate at a Mexican restaurant some really tasty food. Wine was also part of the evening. If anyone get the chance to watch the musical, I recommend, specially if you are a Monty Python fan.

++ During this time that I haven't posted I also watched the new "Pirates of the Caribbean", which was pretty decent but I still liked the first one better. This one was just leading up to the next movie, which is looking like its going to be some good stuff. I've also been playing a lot of WoW, perhaps playing it a little too much. My main character is already at level 33, then my rogue is 14 and I now have a new character that I won't care about it too much but I'll just play it whenever I can, but it is a lvl2 Priest. Last weekend, which was a long weekend, Me, my parents, grandma and Carlin all went to visit my sister in Ottawa. It was a lot of fun and I took a lot of pictures which I will eventually post on the Photos section. Now this weekend coming up I will probably be going to Algonquin Park with Carlin, another great trip, and I will try to post here more often now, I just have to make myself do it. Well have a great weekend everyone.

++ Hey everyone, I'm again writing from the lab. The thing is during the
control nights I don't have much to do here so I get to surf the net and post
things here. Anyway, this week I picked courses for next year. The new system
with the waitlists turns out to not be very helpful, there are 119 waitlisted
people for the 190 filled spots for a course I want to take. so I'd say my
chances are pretty minimal. Well on the good news, I might end up working at a
lab that Dr, Duffin found for me in a hospital. I would be studying something
related to the cardiovascular system. If this goes through I will be doing
that as a credit, which would be great. This week I haven't really seen Carlin,
she has been gone to Joker's Hill and now I'm working at the lab a lot too so
thats why. On my free time I have been playing WoW pretty intensely. Zoah, my

Just like the surprise we saw when Zizou head-butted Materazzi. I would like to highlight some of the italian players that really impressed me this cup, Pirlo was one of the best players I've seen this year, I also really enjoyed seeing how solid Zambrotta and Gattuso were in the defence. ++ Today Italia gave me what my home country didn't, a game with beautiful soccer and excitement. Every game besides the one against Japan, Brasil won but didn't really play well enough to deserve it. Today watching Italy beat Germany was really exciting, perhaps my Italian roots made it a bit more intense but damn it was a good game. The germans were playing pretty dirty, I remember at one point Ballack elbowing one of the Italians, and soon after jumping to the floor as if he was the one getting hurt. Italy deserved that victory and they played with grace, some crazy passes, and a determination that I envied. If only Brasil had half the determination of the Italian team today. Well, now at least I have a team to cheer for in the final, I hope Portugal beats France just because of the coach, but in the end if Italy wins I will be happy.

++ This weekend I became Canadian. After almost 5 years living in Canada me and my family all turned Canadian. There was a very nice ceremony where over 50 people from 24 different countries received citizenship. That very same day, Brasil lost to France in the world cup, and that was how my new citizenship was consummated. After such embarrassing lost, with only one shot to goal. Parreira just watched the game without making any changes until the very end, and I know he doesn't think so but he didn't try. The game is 90 minutes long if after 50 minutes the team has not started to improve, I think its just logic to make changes. 10 minutes towards the end of the game Robinho and Cicinho started to play and the pace of the game did change, however with that little time no miracles were going to happen. Well there you go we lost, but at least I got to see Zidane play some really beautiful soccer, I guess you don't get to see those moves everyday.

Tuesday is my first day of training, it should be pretty good, I think it will be a decent job, plus I get some discounts. The only real problem is that Tuesday at 11 Brasil plays Ghana, and I will be just starting my training, its pretty upsetting how I didn't really plan for that. But I'm probably going to just have to watch it later on Tuesday. It will be the first time I miss a Brasil game on the world cup, and I am the only one to blame. Anyway, I might also be getting another job a gym, but I don't know yet. Today Carlin is also coming back to Toronto. ++ Hey everyone. I'm writing this post from my lab. I am doing my first subject
today, and so far things are going pretty well, it didn't take Bob that long
to fall asleep. Tonight I was also able to learn a bit more about sleep, which
is probably my major interest in physiology. Tu showed me how to recognize all
4 stages of NREM sleep and REM sleep. Although I am not entirely sure about
the later, since I haven't seen it that much. Changing subjects, yesterday
Brasil played Japan in the world cup. We played really well, much better than
the 2 previous games. It was the best game I've seen in the world cup so far.
Japan played pretty well, they are a very strategic team, and if they had some
skills they would have been a hard opponent for Brasil. So much that they even
scored a goal on Brasil from their first kick of the game. I think it was good
to see how the players siting on the bench actually play, I was really
impressed. Robinho was probably the best player today in my opinion. But even
Ronaldo played some pretty descent soccer.

++ After Brasil's second victory in the World Cup, we have guaranteed a place on the top 16, which is pretty cool, but I have to say that today's game was somewhat disappointing. Kaka and Dida were the best players of the game without a doubt, and Australia, despite being a team of jerks played pretty decently. I also watched Korea and France today, I was happy to see Korea tie the game, they are really hard workers and I think they deserve it. I was extremely impressed with the Korean crowd, they were by far the most energetic and supportive crowd I have ever seen. Great stuff. This week is my last week of work, probably. Soon enough I will be out of a job, unless the UofT bookstore calls me again to work in August, which is quite possible. This week I am also monitoring my first volunteer subject at the lab, a friend from BIOME (Bob) was kind enough to let me run some tests on him, next week I have another friend from high school who is helping me out as well.

Oh yeah, but I'm still Brazillian, and today was our first game in this world cup. We played Croatia, and even though we didn't play that well we still won 1x0... I really liked to see that some of the veterans are still doing really well, I'm talking about Cafu and Roberto Carlos. They are both still running along with all the kids. Ronaldo was really bad though, I don't even understand why he is still on the team, he doesn't do anything at all. Ronaldinho couldn't shine but that probably had something to do with the fact that he had 3 men on him the whole time. Some of the players that really did well today were Kaka and Robinho, both pleased me in effort at least, and I would watch them for the next month. Adriano wasn't that bad either. Personally I was expecting more from the team today but at least we didn't loose, and they can learn where they need to improve. Now we play Sunday against Australia, that should be an interesting game now that Australia is actually showing everyone that they have a decent team.
