Who doesn’t want to be Kaylee?

I knew I wanted to do a Firefly cosplay, and as much as I have Inara hair, I relate much more to Kaylee. In many ways I *am* Kaylee. (Of course, in Many ways I am also Simon...)

So, I decided I needed a pair of Kaylee coveralls. More specifically the ones with the teddy bear patch and heart. This was going to be an easy costume, as I was going to find a pair of coveralls and alter them.

Ha ha ha.

Of course, I couldn’t find any that would work, so I made my own. There aren’t any patterns, so I pair of my mothers old coverall as a template. The teddy bear patch is hand-made, and the heart and flower are iron-on fabric pastels, as is the “ai” (the chinese character for love that “Kaylee” doodled on). And the olive oil grease stains faded after 2 days so I have to re-do them with shoe-polish.

The boots, shirts and necklace are my own (I am planning to make replica Kaylee shirts later). And the hair is either always going up or I need a wig (strightening & blond spray didn’t work so much).

Despite minimal recognition at Toronto Trek 17, I adore this costume and am planning to reware it at every sci fi con. It is the most comfortable costume in the 'verse, and pockets are a great thing. The more often I get to be Kaylee, the better!
