Communicating via email: policy for patients
I have allowed communication by email for patients in my practice for several years. Several patients have told me that they find this a convenient way to communicate with me. Email does not replace communication at the office, but rather can be used to enhance it. In order to continue to provide this service, I am providing this policy as a guide to email in my practice.
Email is not to be used for urgent matters. Turnaround times will depend on when I access my email, and can range from a day to a week.
Please be aware that I may not access email while on vacation; I will have a vacation message on auto-reply.
Due to the high volume of spam, I cannot guarantee that your original email will be received; please follow up with a phone call if there is no reply
As with other Internet-based programs, email may entail some privacy risks. Should you choose to communicate with me by email, please be aware of this. Do not use email for very sensitive matters (for example, mental health issues).
Please put the category in the subject line (example: medical advice, problem with medication, etc)
Please put your first and last name in the body of the message, so it can be identified
Please be concise
Please do not use my email address for non-medical matters, such as personal requests, advertisements, etc.
