Wouldn’t it be great to see your doctor when you really need to? Open Access Health Care will help make that possible!
In January 2010, we started an Open Access Booking System. Our goal is to have requests for same day appointments fulfilled that day or by the doctor’s next clinic day.
What is Open Access? Access for appointments is the opportunity for you to see your family doctor or nurse practioner without having to wait. The term “access” is used to focus on reducing delays for an appointment.
What It’s Not...
1. An Access model is not about limiting
or controlling a patient’s ability to
book appointments.
2. An Access model is not about
promoting a walk-in culture;
appointments will still be needed to
see the doctor.
What It Is...
An Access model is about doing today’s
work today. That means addressing your
concerns as they arise and preventing
long wait times to see your family doctor.
Improving access leads to greater patient and staff satisfaction. When practices and clinics implement changes that improve access, they also improve quality and efficiency.
**In keeping with a “healthcare team”
philosophy, to expedite you being seen, more
minor concerns may be initially addressed
by our capable Nurse Practitioner**
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. WHAT ABOUT MY ANNUAL
PHYSICAL?
We are promoting preventive care and this
means asking about your general overall health
at any visit. You can ask your doctor if you
require an annual check up. If you have no
health concerns, you may not need to be seen
annually if you are seen for other reasons during
the year.
Q. WHAT ABOUT PRE-BOOKING THE LAST
APPOINTMENT OF THE DAY?
As we prefer to leave the last appointments of
the day for more urgent issues that may arise,
for an elective appointment you may not always
have access to a late appointment
Q. WHAT IF MY DOCTOR IS AWAY?
You will be given an appointment for the next
available day. If you are sick and need to be seen
that day, our Nurse Practitioner will assess your needs and we
may place you with another team member.
Q. WHAT ABOUT RECURRING
APPOINTMENTS?
Prenatals, well baby checks, physicals and
diabetes follow-ups will
continue to be pre-booked
appointments as they occur
at regular intervals.
However, even these can be
booked the day you call or
within a few days if you wish.
Our goal is to provide you with the best possible care without making you wait. Since January 2010, it is no longer common for our patients to wait for appointments!
