Tetsuya Nomura is one of my favourite designers. He is able to bring such unique and stylish elements into his characters that make you want be just like them. From their hairstyles, to their clothing, to even their accessories, Nomura is able to create fashion like none other. And the good part is, they'll never look ridiculous since they're being made for a game.
Here are the games that Nomura has worked on so far:
Final Fantasy X-2 (2003)
Kingdom Hearts (2002)
Final Fantasy X (2001)
The Bouncer (2000)
Parasite Eve 2 (2000)
Final Fantasy VIII (1999)
Parasite Eve (1998)
Final Fantasy VII (1997)
Chrono Trigger (1995)
Tetsuya Nomura was born on October 1970 in Osaka, Japan. Before he actually became a designer for Square, he used to go to a school where he created art for advertisments. He finally got a decent job when Square invited him in 1992 to work on some of the battle graphics for Final Fantasy V. He then was made graphic director in 1994 for Final Fnatasy VI. Yet, many were still not aware of his talents.
In 1996, a game titled Silent Chaos was in production. The game was a sequel to the PC adventure game, Dark Earth. It was first set to be launched on the PC and then the idea shifted it to be made for the PSOne. The game was worked on for two and a half years when production stopped and it was decided that the game would not be released. At first a designer named Francois Rimasson worked on the designs of the game, but later on, Square gave Nomura the opportunity to take over and show off his skills. But unfortunately, the game never got released and his work went into oblivion.
Nomura was yet to recieve some worldwide fan recognition for his work. The year 1997, would prove to be his lucky year. He was asked to become character designer for Final Fantasy VII which was the game that was supposed to revolutionize the way RPGs would look for life. As most already know, FF7 was a huge success and is the reason why there are so many fan based websites of the game even today. His success grew as in 1998 he worked on games of the like of Parasite Eve and Brave Fencer Musashi. The following year gave him even more acclaim as he showcased his works from Final Fantasy 8. For the first time, he created characters so real looking that his bosses were mighty impressed with him.
Square was so impreseed by his work that they made him head character designer and Battle visual director. He was then assigned jobs on many other projects including Ehrgeiz, Parasite Eve 2, and the Bouncer for the Play Station 2. And the Bouncer as we know caused quite a stir in the gaming community since it showcased some breathtaking visuals. Unfortunately the game didn't turn out to be a success due to unappreciated gameplay.
Finally, Nomura has been recently responsible for the works of Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy X-2, both of which have extraordinary graphics indeed.
