Individual therapy: What do single people work on in
psychotherapy?
In
addition to the problems that married people often work on--depression, stress, work problems, childhood
trauma, etc.--here are some of the things therapists help singles with.
My relationships start off well, but something
always goes wrong.
After the third roommate from hell, I'm trying to
figure out if I should be doing something differently.
I have a wonderful girlfriend now, but I am having
difficulty trusting because I keep having flashbacks to my ex, who betrayed me.
I keep picking the wrong people.
I live with my family, and my parents still treat me
as if I was a kid.
I am widowed, and I find it very difficult to
adjust to living alone.
My parents expect me to marry within our culture,
but I am not sure if that is what I want.
I only attract losers.
All my friends are now married with young
children, and hardly ever have time to see me.
I have just extricated myself from a second
abusive relationship. If there is a pattern here, I want to change it before I
try again.
My friends don't like my boyfriend, and I wonder
if I'm making a mistake.
How much do you put up with before you dump a
friend?
I am in recovery in A.A., and I would like some help to embark on a different type of relationship from
the sort I
used to have.
I would like to marry, but I hate dating.
