LETS GO WATCH TV

jeff recommends tv

my standards for tv shows are interesting.

on one hand, i can be quite critical and snobby. i voice a lot of negative opinions on shows that people love.

on the other hand, i laugh hysterically at a show about 2 dudes seeing who can produce the biggest fart

here is a list of tv shows (series) that i like. these are the cream of the crop by my standards. i would happily spend lots of money to watch these shows. this webpage does not include documentary series like making a murderer or wild wild country. perhaps i will explore documentary series another time.

if there's a good by your standards that is not here, it is either
A: not good enough for me to remember it
B: i havent seen it
C: became so bad that it soured the entire series (cough game of thrones cough)

there is no specific order i wanted to highlight, so i just put them alphabetically. let's go

american vandal

it's a true crime mockumentary set in a high school.
instead of being about a serial killer, psychopathic mastermind, or criminal injustices,
american vandal is about a dude who may or may not have drawn dicks on all the teachers' cars.

very funny, highly accurate portrayal of high school, dry and mundane humour, surprisingly insightful, and i recommend it for any fans of true crime.

avatar the last airbender

my favourite show ever. i've seen it start to finish 11 times, and im ready for #12. you can read more about it here

this is not just a recommendation, this is a guarantee: there is not a single person in the world who won't like this show.

better call saul

this is vince gilligan's spin off series from breaking bad.
it's a character driven drama about law, set in the universe of breaking bad.
but you don't need to watch breaking bad to enjoy this show.
in fact, i like it even more!

better call saul is a very artistic and intellectual show with some great character writing. it is incredible and i can't wait for the next season

breaking bad

the og show that broke grounds and set standards even harder than the sopranos did.
very well constructed and suspenseful story of interesting and multi-faceted characters.

if you have yet to see breaking bad, you are missing out.

i think you should leave with tim robinson

i don't think any show has ever made me laugh as hard as this one
if you thought sketch comedy was a thing of the past, think again assbutt
tim robinson is a comedic genius and i laugh just thinking about him

a short 6 twenty minute episodes on netflix is 100% worth your time.

kenny vs spenny

i don't think any show has ever made me laugh as hard as this one
kenny vs spenny is a show where 2 people have a contest with different rules every episode
the contestants are always kenny hotz and spencer rice.
kenny is very clever, funny, and cruel. spenny is very neurotic, snotty, and fragile.
there is very little moderation, and the loser has to face ultimate humiliations.

although extremely trashy, this show is self aware to an extreme degree, and makes for hilarious television. bonus points for being set in toronto

nathan for you

i don't think any show has ever made me laugh as hard as this one
the premise is that nathan helps small struggling businesses turn profit, kinda like kitchen nightmares with gordon ramsay.
but nathan is a shy michael scott type character and his ideas are extremely unorthodox
chaos and hilarity always ensues out of mundanity.

actually the most innovative comedy show i have ever seen and i 100% recommend it to everyone

nirvanna the band the show

i don't think any show has ever made me laugh as hard as this one
similar tones to nathan for you, but this one is about a band who want to perform at a local restaurant.
instead of applying like normal people would, they come up with crazy unorthodox schemes, just like nathan.
this show is set in toronto and aside from the 2 leads, the other characters you see in this show
are likely to just be regular people playing their genuine selves, unaware of the show being filmed

extremely overlooked, this show has a acclaimed cult following and it is incredible. definitely recommended to anyone who is a fan of the 2 previous shows i mentioned

the office

i don't think any show has ever made me laugh as hard as this one
i mean who doesn't like the office? prior to michael scott's departure, the office is consistently hilarious
the office also has a lot of self awareness and heart to it

if you have not seen it yet, even just a single episode, i have no idea what to say to you at this point.

over the garden wall

over the garden wall is a true piece of art.
there is so much charm and heart in this show, and it is beautifully scored and animated

the episodes are only 10 minutes long, and there are only 10. give it watch, it takes less time than a movie, and it will warm your heart and soothe your soul

the terror

the terror is bleak. depressing. horrifying. and a masterpiece
the drama and character development is truly masterful.
the pacing and editting of the show is extremely clever.
the terror is based on true historical events, of 2 ships that went on an expedition to find a passage through the arctic.
the ships were frozen in ice, and all 129 crew members died.
this show takes this historical event and dramaticizes it with fiction

if you're into stuff that challenges you, or enjoy brilliantly written characters with an added element of horror, the terror is a show you do not want to overlook.

south park

i don't think any show has ever made me laugh as hard as this one
i don't know how, but south park manages to be both
the most intelligent show, and most stupid show on television at the same time.
always topical, and has a lot to say, south park attacks a subject matter, exaggerates the arguments on both sides to a ridiculous degree,
and mocks and makes fun of everyone.
or it just presents a hilarious episodic one off story.

if you want to be a edgy and woke at the same time, watch south park.

honourable mentions

shows that i thought about including and found enjoyment out of, but ultimately i don't hold up to the same degree as the shows that i listed

australian
survivor 2017
the boys cobra kai conan da ali g show death note

firefly full metal alchemist:
brotherhood
futurama the good place gravity falls haikyuu!!

my brother my
brother and
me tv show
parks and

scrubs stranger things westworld xavier renegade
angel

reflection

after looking at this list for some time, it looks like the kinds of shows i like are the ones that are either masterfully crafted and well written pieces of art, or extremely self aware comedy. a lot of the honourable mentions are shows that i generally view positively, but have some issues with, or start off really strong and become worse as the show progresses (but not bad enough to ruin the show). for example, i really loved westworld season 1, but i felt season 2 was nowhere near as well crafted, and overall quite unnecessary. i share the same feelings with stranger things and death note. speaking of animes, i find that animes are certainly less satisfying on repeat watches. fma:b and haikyuu were spectacular on my first watch, but on repeat watches it was a lot less exciting and kind of a slog at points. anyways, i didn't mean to write up a reflections part for this webpage but some thoughts came to my head as i was finishing up the page. feel free to send me feedback or questions on anything.
