I got into astronomy through my love of science fiction.
(See
hobbies.) In first year university, the
astronomy course was the best of the science courses, so I followed that.
I eventually got a Ph.D. in astronomy.
I studied the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation and the effect
of huge masses on it through gravitational lensing for my Masters. I studied
the effect of clusters of galaxies on the merging of binary galaxies for
my Ph.D. Both of these topics involved computer simulations: making the
computer pretend to be the Universe or a part of it, and performing
experiments on it.
